What are Guard Petals?
Guard petals are the tough, outermost petals of a rose. Their job is to protect the delicate inner bloom while the flower grows on the farm and travels to you. Because they absorb the impact of weather and handling during shipping, they often look bruised, darker, or slightly wrinkled, this is a natural sign of a fresh, farm-direct rose, not a defect. Simply pinch the base of these two to four outer petals and peel them off to reveal the fresh, true-colored bloom underneath.
How do I care for my roses so they last longer?
Trim the stems at an angle before placing them in water, use clean water with flower food if provided, and keep them away from direct sunlight, heat, and ripening fruit. Change the water every 2–3 days and re-trim the stems each time for the longest vase life.
Do tinted roses need different care than natural roses?
Yes, slightly. Tinted roses need a bit of extra care during hydration, avoiding flower food, using a clean, separate container for each color, and letting them drink before refrigeration, since the dye can transfer to water, fabric, or nearby natural flowers.
